Welcome to the 10th (what, already?) issue of TWID - the only design newsletter written by me.
This week on Twitter has probably been one of the strangest ones (so far)… don’t even know where to start.

Steve Jobs fan fiction (or not…)
Oh buddy, you gotta strap in for this one, things are about to get hot and heavy 🥵
A Twitter account by the name of @darius has been going somewhat viral on tech / design twitter for what I can only describe as mixed reasons.
Micheal (aka Darius) has been writing long form Tweets sharing what appear to be intimate details of what it was like to work alongside Steve Jobs.
If you scroll through his timeline (and I strongly recommend that you do), you will quickly be exposed to dozens of Tweets that are so well put together that they almost read like fan fiction.
When asked to elaborate on the details of his work, Michael posted this impressive resume, along with some links to his personal site.
Now, this is where it starts to get really interesting.
If you visit his site, you will see what I can only describe as an AI generated shrine of self-portraits and links to various ventures.
The combination of his incredibly detailed first hand accounts & the ridiculous website (along with lack of any actual proof), many people started to question the legitimacy of his claims.
Things took a slight turn when people began to notice Michael’s newly found Twitter stardom and began sharing their own stories of experiences with him.
He is HIM btw.
Preston shared some DMs he and Michael exchanged, where he (Michael) was offering his “mentorship” services at the incredibly affordable rate of 5 bucks a minute.
The ridicule continued, with many designers dunking on Michael for his vivid imagination.
That was fun, but things took a really unexpected turn for confusing – when someone actually corroborated his story of working at Apple for “many years.”
I’m no investigator, but this whole thing is at least a little weird. The more I read, the less I understand.
If this isn’t some kind of social experiment, then I don’t know what it is…
One thing’s for sure – Michael Darius has inspired many Apple Alumni to come out and share their own experiences of working with Mr. Jobs.
Who actually reads case studies? Not me.
It just wouldn’t be design Twitter without our weekly debates.
This time, we at least left layer naming in the past, & moved on to something a little more tangible – case studies.
Like many designers, I too loathe the thought of having to distill my old work for the whole world to see.
Dann said it, not everything always needs a big explanation. Sometimes, the work can just speak for itself.
iOS 17 is out, & some things are different
The annual iOS refresh is out, and design Twitter is splitting into camps of “hate it” or “love it” … as is tradition.
This time, the new iMessage action sheet seems to be getting the most attention.
Honestly, this doesn’t feel very Apple (yet), but I actually really vibe with it.

@jordanphughes improves Untitled UI
Jordan doesn’t need an introduction, but in case you’re not familiar with his work - we have him to thank for building one of (if not the) best UI kits for Figma.
This week he released a massive update, and you should probably check it out. I’ve been introduced to this UI kit years ago, & nothing even comes close imo.
